C. V. R. Murty
C. V. R. Murty, Professor of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (and currently the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology at Jodhpur), is a Civil Engineering graduate, and specializes in Structural Engineering with emphasis on earthquake safety. He is passionate in the teaching, research and guiding practice of Earthquake Engineering in India. His books on earthquake safety are popular – they de-mystify and simplify the subject. He has been active in the development of earthquake design codes for both buildings and bridges, which are now practiced in India.
Murty is a principal author of National Disaster Management Policy & Guidelines – Earthquakes notified by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India. He is engaged with NDMA through its technical committees to prepare and guide technical initiatives of the Government of India towards building systems to implement earthquake safety in India. He is an enthusiastic advocate of earthquake safety to many state governments.
As a Member of the Board of Trustees of The Jodhpur Initiative, Murty will play a significant role in identifying and mitigating challenges in multiple sectors, including safety of built environment and education.
